Professional ear wax removal using microsuction and irrigation โ€” safe, gentle treatment tailored to your individual needs.

Is Ear Wax Causing You Problems?

Ear wax is completely natural and plays an important role in keeping your ears healthy. It helps protect the delicate skin inside your ear canal and traps dust, dirt and other particles.

Most of the time, your ears naturally move wax out of the ear. However, sometimes wax can build up and become impacted, causing your ears to feel blocked or uncomfortable and affecting your hearing.

At Ray of Hearing, we provide professional ear wax removal using microsuction and irrigation, depending on your individual needs and what is safe and appropriate for your ears.

Signs You May Have Too Much Ear Wax

  • Muffled or reduced hearing
  • A blocked or full feeling in the ear
  • Earache or discomfort
  • Ringing or buzzing sounds (tinnitus)
  • Occasionally, dizziness

If you are experiencing hearing difficulties, it is important not to assume that wax is the cause. There can be other reasons for changes in hearing, which is why we assess your ears before carrying out any treatment.

Microsuction & Irrigation

We offer two methods of ear wax removal and will always assess your ears first to recommend the most appropriate option for you.

Microsuction

Microsuction is a gentle, water-free method of removing ear wax. We use a microscope or magnified view to carefully examine your ear canal, then a small suction probe to gently remove the wax and debris.

Because microsuction does not involve water, it can be a useful option for people who may not be suitable for irrigation. It also allows the practitioner to see the ear canal throughout the procedure. Many people find microsuction quick and comfortable.

Ear Irrigation

Ear irrigation uses a controlled flow of water to gently flush ear wax from the ear canal. The water is delivered at a controlled pressure and helps loosen and remove the build-up of wax.

Irrigation isn't suitable for everyone. Certain ear conditions, previous ear surgery, a perforated eardrum and some other circumstances can mean another approach is more appropriate โ€” which is why we assess your ears first.

Which Method Is Right for Me?

There isn't one method that is suitable for everybody. At Ray of Hearing, we will examine your ears and consider your individual circumstances before recommending microsuction or irrigation. Our priority is to provide safe, professional treatment that is appropriate for you. If we feel that ear wax removal isn't suitable or that your symptoms need further medical investigation, we'll explain this and advise you on the appropriate next step.

What Happens During Your Appointment?

We want you to feel comfortable and know what to expect. Here's what a typical ear wax removal appointment involves.

1

A Conversation About Your Ears

We'll ask about your symptoms, medical history and any previous problems with your ears.

2

An Examination

We'll look inside your ears to assess the ear canal and any wax build-up, and to determine whether removal is appropriate.

3

Your Treatment

Where appropriate, we'll carry out microsuction or irrigation using suitable equipment and a careful, professional approach.

4

Aftercare and Advice

Once the wax has been removed, we'll check your ears again and discuss any advice you may need.

๐Ÿšซ Please Don't Put Cotton Buds in Your Ears

It can be tempting to use cotton buds to clean your ears, but they can push wax deeper into the ear canal and may damage the delicate skin or eardrum. Your ears are generally self-cleaning, so you don't need to regularly clean inside the ear canal.

When Should You Seek Medical Advice?

Ear wax is a common cause of blocked or muffled hearing, but not every ear problem is caused by wax.

You should seek medical advice if you have sudden hearing loss, significant or persistent ear pain, discharge from the ear, or other symptoms that concern you. If we identify something during your assessment that requires medical attention, we'll advise you accordingly.

At Ray of Hearing, ear wax removal is more than simply clearing a blocked ear. We take the time to assess your ears, explain what's happening and make sure you understand your options.

With Jayen's professional training in microsuction and irrigation, you can expect a friendly, personal service with your comfort and safety at the heart of every appointment.
